This echoes Bhagavad Gita 10.33–34 and 11.32, where Krishna declares ‘I am Time’ — kalo ‘smi — ‘among reckoners I am Time’ and, in the vision of the universal form, ‘I am the mighty world-destroying Time.’ The line as phrased here is a popular condensation of those verses.
