Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was born in Manchester, moved to Tennessee at sixteen, and wrote to support her family from her teens onward. A Little Princess (1905) and The Secret Garden (1911) both turn on the same idea: a child stripped of everything who has to construct an inner position to survive.
