What it means
Two exact concessions make the line work. Not all — he does not claim ignorance, only partial ignorance, and the part he does know is not encouraging. And I’ll go to it: motion towards, not waiting for arrival. What follows is not a forecast but a decision about conduct, declared before the event, which is a different kind of statement and can be kept whatever comes.
That construction is why the sentence survives being passed around as ordinary cheerfulness, and why the cheerful reading is wrong. It promises nothing about the outcome and supplies no grounds for hope. Its entire content is how the speaker intends to behave — the one part of the situation still in his hands.
What it teaches you
Next time you catch yourself relitigating whether something will turn out badly — a diagnosis, a result, a decision already sent — notice that the argument has no ending and yields nothing. The answerable question is the other one: how you mean to carry yourself in either version. Settle that in advance and in specific terms, and the forecasting loses most of its grip.

The line works because it refuses both denial and despair. He does not claim it will be fine; he decides how he intends to meet it either way.
