Quotes by
Lord Krishna
Krishna’s words on this site come from the Bhagavad Gita — the seven-hundred-verse dialogue set on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, inside the epic Mahabharata, in which a warrior refuses to fight and receives in reply one of the world’s great arguments about duty, detachment and the nature of the self. The Gita has been read as scripture, as philosophy and as a practical manual; Gandhi called it his dictionary of daily reference. Our translations are Swami Swarupananda’s (1909), which is in the public domain, and every verse is cited by chapter and verse so you can look it up. Where a popular “Gita quote” is really a modern poster paraphrase, we label it as one.
