What it means
Taken as an instruction it fails twice. It never says second what — the star is supplied by memory and by later retellings, not by this sentence. And it changes units halfway: second to the right is a direction, till morning is a duration. Nobody could follow it who was not already going to arrive.
What keeps it worth quoting is that it sounds exactly like competence. The rhythm is brisk, the number is specific, the confidence is total — which is how most unusable directions sound. Outside the book the line has become a neat description of any instruction that can only be followed by the person who does not need it.
What it teaches you
Check your own handovers for this shape — the README, the recipe, the route you gave a friend over the phone. The tell is a step that is precise about something a newcomer cannot identify: second to the right, the usual folder, the small blue door. Anyone who already knows will read straight past the gap, so the only test that works is handing it to someone who does not.

Barrie is not being merely whimsical. Neverland in this book is reachable only by children who believe in it, so the route can afford to be nonsense.
