What it means
The grammar is the argument: until. This is an order of operations, not a comparison. Self-belief is not being praised alongside faith, it is made the precondition of it — so a devotion built on telling yourself you are worthless has failed at the first step rather than arrived at a humbler version of the last one.
It can be stated that flatly because in his Vedanta the self being disparaged and the divinity being addressed are not two different objects. This is also why the self-help reading undersells it: there, ‘believe in yourself’ means confidence about ability — clearing an exam, starting a business. Here it is a claim about what you fundamentally are, which makes self-contempt a religious error rather than a psychological one.
What it teaches you
Listen to the words you actually use in prayer or before a shrine — ‘I am nothing’, ‘I am unworthy’. The line does not ask you to swap them for boasting; it asks you to notice that if the worship needs that running self-dismissal in order to work, the arrangement is inverted by its own logic. The practical version is small and portable: stop treating self-disparagement as proof of devotion, whether at a temple or in front of a boss.

बात ‘जब तक’ पर टिकी है — यहाँ आत्म-विश्वास की तारीफ़ नहीं हो रही, उसे ईश्वर पर विश्वास की पहली शर्त बताया जा रहा है। वेदांत की दृष्टि में जिस स्वयं को आप तुच्छ कह रहे हैं और जिस ईश्वर को पुकार रहे हैं, वे दो अलग वस्तुएँ नहीं; इसलिए ख़ुद को हीन मानना विनम्रता नहीं, एक धार्मिक चूक है। इसे ‘सफल होने का आत्मविश्वास’ समझ लेना इस कथन को छोटा कर देना है — असल बात यह है कि आत्म-निंदा को भक्ति का प्रमाण मानना बंद कीजिए।

A close paraphrase of genuine Vivekananda. In the Complete Works he puts it even more sharply: ‘He is an atheist who does not believe in himself. The old religions said that he was an atheist who did not believe in God. The new religion says that he is the atheist who does not believe in himself.’
